Register NowTitle: Creating brain-based, joyful professional learning experiences
Speaker: Bryan Goodwin & Kris Rouleau
Description: Let’s face it. Many teachers dread professional development. In-service days are too often slow-paced, disconnected from teachers’ needs, heavy on theory, light on practical application, and fail to help teachers become more expert as practitioners. So, it’s not surprising that research has largely found that traditional professional development does little to change educator practices. That’s the bad news.
Here’s the good news: When properly designed, professional learning can have meaningful impact on educator practices and student achievement and drive better school outcomes. In short, teachers need professional learning—but they need it to be good professional learning. They need their learning experiences that reflect what we know about how our brains work and what we’ve learned from decades of research about effective adult learning. During this follow-up webinar, you’ll learn how the same six-phase model of learning that works for students can guide professional learning for teachers. Just as with students, when we design teachers’ professional learning experiences to reflect how their brains work, we can provide them with effective and engaging learning experiences that are not just effective but also joyful.
